Kiwanis Region 9 Meeting
09:30-12:30; SA 5/16/2009, Little Rock, AR
Conway, AR Kiwanis representation: Gene Bartley, Erick Peebles, Brett McDaniel (10 of 22 clubs’ representatives in attendance)
1. Growth Summit (Opening speech by Current Trustee Gary Warner) 1. 350 new clubs per year required to reach goal of 1 million members 2. 10 year decline in North American growth 3. 5 year growth in MoArk district (+8%) 4. Satellite clubs noted as an opportunity for growth with relatively easy facilitation 5. TAG (together achieving growth) Building a volunteer army 6. Teaching ethics & servant leadership through children benefits the future 2. Planning Your Club’s Success (Speech by District Secretary David Greene) 1. Statement of Purpose noted: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. 2. Club leaders must develop a plan and obtain ‘buy – in’ from club members 3. Maintain a data base with club members and club history 4. Identify where we have been and where we are going 5. Perform a community and club analysis 6. Utilize available resources 1. People, publications, website 3. Great Clubs Work on Being Great (speech by Gary Warner) 1. Plan, strategize and establish goals 2. Insist on relevancy and adjust club activities as required 3. Develop leaders at all levels 4. Focus on growth, giving, service and fellowship 5. Develop membership campaigns 1. Resources noted- Kiwanis 6-pack (website) 2. Talk to people you know and don’t know inviting them to meetings and asking for help with service projects 4. MoArk Region 9 Growth Plan (Gary Warner) 1. Develop a vision (now to 2015) 2. Note that growth requires strong leadership 3. Identify / delegate 1. from the club president through 2. TAG volunteers (3 per club who are tenured and passionate about Kiwanis) 3. Board 4. New clubs require nurturing 5. Establish a timeline for goals which are specific, quantifiable and realistic 6. Nominated and subsequently approved (unanimously) as Region 9 Trustee 2. Region 9 consists of 17 counties (refer to map) 3. Initially a one year term with eligibility for a second, three year term 4. Trustee serves on a Board with total of 9 Trustees along with other District officers who meet quarterly to lead and establish regional meetings to help focus on the growth of clubs in the respective divisions
